Nepal update, October 2026

Many people are still living in temporary holding centres following Nepal’s devastating flash flood.

Food and water supplies remain severely disrupted, and damaged roads and bridges continue to make some areas difficult to reach.

AOA is supporting the International Nepal Fellowship (INF), one of several organisations coordinating a response through the ACT Alliance.

Together, these organisations are:

  1. Helping flood-affected households meet their essential needs, including by restoring local markets, a crucial link in the local food supply chain.

  2. Restoring access to safe drinking water and sanitation, including through repairs to water supply systems.

  3. Enabling students to continue their education by establishing temporary learning facilities.

  4. Providing psychosocial support, including counselling for people affected by the flood.

  5. Preparing communities for future disasters, including by improving community-based early warning systems.

These steps will help communities rebuild their lives, even as they mourn what has been lost.

This work builds on INF’s initial urgent response, which supplied food, clean water and shelter to communities affected by the flood.

The response follows the devastating flash flood on 26 August, when a surge of water, ice, rocks and debris tore through Nepal’s Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.

It swept through towns and remote mountain areas, destroying homes, roads, bridges and critical infrastructure.

More than 1,300 people have died, and over 5,000 remain missing in Nepal.

Please donate today to support families facing profound loss and uncertainty.

This is an active emergency. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
