You can give survivors a chance to live again
This Christmas, help the Al-Ahli Hospital keep caring for patients like Shorouq.
Shorouq is a 25-year-old widow and a mother from Gaza City.
At a time when a young woman should be enjoying motherhood, Shorouq was hiding in a shelter. When the shelter was struck, many of the women died, but thanks to surgeons and emergency care staff, Shorouq survived.
But this was only the first step. Shorouq’s journey was long. Yet she didn’t have to endure it alone.
The Al-Ahli hospital team stayed by Shorouq’s side through agonising amputations of both her legs. The staff continued to heal, to support, and to rehabilitate.
Al-Ahli provided treatment for Shorouq for almost two years. It involved pain management, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and psychological support. She also received assistance as she works toward greater independence in caring for her young child.
Hospital director Suhaila explains this commitment and care beautifully:
‘Saving a life is only the first step. The real challenge is giving survivors the chance to live again.’
Al-Ahli Hospital staff need us now more than ever.
Lack of water and sanitation, shelter, food and medicine is causing serious health challenges. Infectious diseases are widespread, particularly in overcrowded displacement sites.
Some of the people arriving for treatment and advice are chronically ill and have been neglected for a long time. Others are in need of elective surgeries or specialised healthcare, such as breast cancer screenings.
We must urgently raise $300,000 to meet the hospital’s pressing needs and ensure surgeons, nurses, specialists, and physiotherapists can continue saving lives.
The funds you help us raise will go toward staff salaries at Al-Ahli, Gaza’s only Christian hospital. A place where everyone, regardless of background or faith, receives treatment.
